Roundup: Duplantier named minor league pitcher of the month

Visalia Rawhide right-handed pitcher Jon Duplantier was named on Thursday as the MLB Pipeline Pitcher of the Year

Visalia Rawhide right-handed pitcher Jon Duplantier has been named the Arizona Diamondbacks Minor League Pitcher of the Month for July.

Dupantier is the Diamondbacks’ No. 2 prospect according to the MLB Pipeline. He was promoted to Visalia from Class-A Kane County on June 22.

In four starts in July with the Rawhide, Duplanter went 4-0 with a 1.82 ERA (five earned runs in 24.2 innings pitched) with 28 strikeouts and six walks. He ranked among California League leaders last month in ERA (second), wins (tied for second), opponent average (sixth, .250), and WHIP (seventh, 1.14).

Duplantier was also named the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Month in April (1-0, 0.00) and May (4-0, 0.79) while with Kane County. He was selected by the Diamondbacks in the third round of the 2016 first-year player draft from Rice University.

Duplantier becomes the second player in Diamondbacks franchise history who has been named Minor League Pitcher of the Month three times in one season.

He joins current Arizona right-handed pitcher Archie Bradley, who was given the distinction three times during the 2013 season, five games of which he spent in Visalia.

Duplantier put up a career start in his final appearance of July, tossing seven shutout innings against Lake Elsinore while striking out a career-best nine hitters and scattering seven hits while walking none.

He has allowed more than one earned run only once this season while in a Rawhide uniform.

Duplantier is scheduled to start on Saturday for Visalia at Recreation Park against the Stockton Ports.

Youth baseball

The Tulare All-Stars opened the 12U/60 Cal Ripken World Series on Thursday by winning in dramatic fashion in Clemmons, N.C.

Tulare tied the game in the bottom of the sixth to send the game into extra innings.

The All-Stars then scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 9-8 victory over Glen Allen of Virginia — the Southeast Regional Champion.

In the bottom of the sixht, Tulare tied the game by pushing across a run to tie the contest at 5-5. Jaden Ortega was hit by a pitch, advanced two bases on pass balls and scored on a two-out swinging bunt single by Carson Lopes.

In the top of the seventh, Glen Allen scored three runs to take a 8-5 lead.

But Tulare answered in the bottom half.

Tulare's first two batters grounded out but the All-Stars put together five consecutive hits. James Corral's double knocked in the game-winning run 

Corral was named player of the game.

Football

Tickets to go on sale: Football season tickets for Tulare Union, Tulare Western, and Mission Oak high schools will go on sale at noon on Monday at the district office, business services department, 426 N. Blackstone St. in Tulare.

Season ticket holders from 2016 may reserve the same seating for 2017 through Friday, Aug. 18. All season tickets not sold last year will also go on sale at this time.

Ticket prices for this season are $9 for single reserve, $7 for adults, $3 for high school students and elementary school students with a valid I.D. card.

Senior Citizen Lifetime passes for residents of the Tulare Joint Union High School District age 65 and over will be made available free of charge and are good for all home football games. Senior passes do not include free admission to all playoff games.
