Investigators with the California Department of Motor Vehicles conducted a series of Disabled Person Parking Placard operations throughout June, citing dozens in the Valley.

More than 190 people were found to be fraudulently using placards, investigators said.

Investigators contacted 66 drivers in Tulare and Fresno counties. A total of nine drivers from Selma, Dinuba and Sanger were cited.

Investigators confiscate the fraudulent placard and the cases were forwarded to the local authorities for prosecution.

Drivers who are issued misdemeanor citations face court fines that range between $250 and $1,000. They will also have the offense recorded on their driving record, which could increase insurance rates investigators said.

From April to June California investigators have issued 747 citations.

The statewide crackdown is part of the DMV’s ongoing efforts to guarantee handicap parking spots are used by individuals who have legitimately obtained disabled parking placards.
